The Door & Ladder Society, Teen Philanthropy Program --
A dynamic program for Jewish 10th graders who want to change the world! Over the course of ten weeknight sessions and one two-day intensive workshop participants collaborate with each other to explore the meaning of philanthropy and their responsibility to our community. The teens serve as a grant-making board to distribute $20,000 to local Jewish projects of their choosing. ALONG THE WAY, they have the opportunity to get to know teens from different Jewish backgrounds; figure out how Jewish concepts such as tzedakah, justice, and community apply in today’s world; learn how philanthropy and non-profits make a difference in the world; talk about the role of money and power in our culture; and meet change-makers, teachers, and community philanthropists. To learn more, contact Anita Blustein at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta at anita.blustein@altantajcc.org or 770-396-3250.
The March of the Living --
This international, educational program takes place each April or May, and brings Jewish teens from all over the world to Poland. On Yom Hashoah, the Holocaust Memorial Day, participants march from Auschwitz to Birkenau, the largest concentration camp complex built during World War II. They then travel to Israel to observe Yom Hazikaron, Israel’s Memorial Day, and Yom Haatzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day. The goal of the March of the Living is to help our young people learn the lessons of the Holocaust and enable them to lead the Jewish people into the future vowing Never Again. Open to high school juniors and seniors only. For more information, contact The Weber School, Yeshiva Atlanta, or BBYO at the MJCCA.
Israel Experience Scholarships --
The Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta offers scholarships and incentive grants for various peer-based educational trips to Israel. For the most current information about applications, deadlines, qualifying programs, etc. see www.shalomatlanta.org.
